China to Spend 1.1 Trillion RMB on Internet Infrastructure in 3 Years

China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) announced investment plans of over 1.1 trillion RMB (US$177 billion; US$1=6.21 RMB) to improve domestic Internet environment during 2015-2017, reported Commercial Times on July 7. China's investment in Internet infrastructure is estimated to reach 435 billion RMB (US$70 billion) this year, up 10% year on year. To facilitate e-commerce startups, MIIT also plans to bring down data usage costs for mobile phone and fixed broadband network users by 30% before year end. As of May 2015, China's FTTH (Fiber to the Home) subscribers have totaled 335 million while 3G and 4G subscribers have reached 640 million, according to MIIT.
